The Strange Bird Society was founded in 1986 by Lorena Rostig who, at the time, was a young newlywed and military spouse. she was told, "There is nothing wrong with you, sweetie. You are just a strange bird. Once you find other birds to fly with, you will never feel alone again." As the years went on, Lorena met other strange birds around the world. Upon settling in Wisconsin, she once again found herself feeling alone and different.

As she made new friends, she told them about her Strange Bird Society (SBS) and the Fond du Lac SBS born. A group of mothers with a passion for life and family, we meet once a month to celebrate special events and support one another during trials and tribulations. Like our mascot, the toucan, we relate to being an endangered species, colorful, and the mascot for "Fruit Loops!" The Strange Bird Society is a place where we can celebrate our unique individuality and yet still feel the warmth and support of being part of a "flock." We are the Strange Bird Society!
